Today I've been thinking about literature that includes pregnancy in any way. The first few books that came to mind were Pearl Buck's The Good Earth, more recently Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean, Thrity Umrigar's The Space Between Us, Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, and Gone with the Wind. I'm sure there are hundreds more, but those are the only titles that came to mind right away. There isn't a novel I've read that really described, related or detailed pregnancy the way I've experienced it. None have captured the long wait, the exhaustion, pain, and tedium of pregnancy. For such an incredibly important part of life, I find it conspicuously absent in the world of literature.

And then I thought: Because no one wants to read about this.

Holy boring, Batman! No one wants to read about happy marriages either, or pleasant family vacations, or noodle salad in the park. Or pregnancy.
