Owning up

I completely forgot to be home when my visiting teaching sisters came to visit me. It didn't just slip my mind, I forgot about it the minute after we made the appointment. But I remembered when my little brother was eating a cookie and I asked him from whence it came, hoping to eat one myself, and he said the sisters left it for me when I blew off the appointment.

When I got on the phone to apologize to my visiting teacher, I left a voicemail that went like this:

Me: "Hi Sister So-and-So. I am so sorry I missed you earlier this evening. I'm really embarrassed that you took the time to come and see me and I wasn't there. I completely forgot. I am not usually....(long pause from a dawning realization)...............well, actually, I am like this. All the time. I am completely flaky and forgetful. I'm so sorry. Maybe we can make it work next month. Bye!"

It felt kind of great owning up to it.

  1. I'm glad that you didn't say you usually aren't like that because then I would have had to call you on it.

    Love you.

    Come see my new place.

  2. Shelley--I love your blog--thanks for the link :). I know how the whole forgetting appointments thing goes...it's kind of hard, especially when you are in school/interning, writing a thesis etc. to remember the things that don't have an academic deadline attached--a frustrating situation! Enjoy your MA-free weekend :)
