This may be an incredibly egotistical post. But hopefully not repugnantly so.
I saw this new painting of James Christiansen's today in a Greenwich Workshop catalogue, entitled A Place of Her Own. I was startled, and the first thing out of my mouth was (and yes, it was in the middle of Staff Meeting): "Oh my word - that's me!" Because, first of all, I would love to sit and read in that room. Secondly, one of the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries is hanging behind her, which are the very topic of my thesis and reason we went to Paris. Thirdly, my prom dress was exactly like that (yes, big, golden yellow, and reminiscent of a Renaissance troubadour. In my defense, I was asked by the president of the Drama Club). And she has brown hair. And there's an antique map, a collection of Shakespeare, and an Art History book at her feet. Anyway, I showed it to my mom and she agreed with me so much she wants to buy it. I've never had that reaction to work of art before, and it was sort of strange.
I promise that's as self-indulgent and egotistical as I will allow on this blog.
Let's think of it this way: who else could it be better than you?
ReplyDeleteWhat are BFFs for if not to validate our egotisticalism (and make up words)?.!
Here's what Iove--that you would notice all those wonderful details. I tend to just get general visual impressions of things without paying strict attention. I always admire people like you who really SEE.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes. It's you. In every way!
