An Experiment using the Scientific Method

Hypothesis: Being more assertive without seeming rude will greatly enhance the subject's success in the workplace and in interpersonal relationships.

Experiment: The subject will endeavor to act more assertive by disallowing others to interrupt, discredit, ignore or otherwise 'push her around' in everyday conversations, e-mails, and phone calls.

Projected Result: The subject will feel a greater sense of accomplishment and satisfaction without guilt.

Case # 1: BYU Health Center Secretary calls at 3:43 to reschedule the subject's highly anticipated doctor's appointment for the third time in a month. Subject experimented on hypothesis by sharply answering: "If you're going to move this appointment again, you will have to give me an hour with the doctor, not just twenty minutes."

Result: Subject got what she wanted.
