2009

I had a dream last night I was looking for 2009 calendars. I found a large one with shots from upcoming films of 2009. They were photos of the kind of movies I would be obsessed with - along the lines of Wives and Daughters, A Room with a View and North and South. Gorgeous period films with slow moving, intricate plots, heated letters, strong heroines and marvelous kisses that make the 3/6/9 hours worth the wait. One even had Ciaran Hind as a Captain Wentworth-type character, and Helena Bonham Carter as another Lucy Honeychurch. These kind of movies only really come out every one in five (or even ten) years, and in my dream I thought: "Oh my word! 2009 is going to be AWESOME."

I was extremely disappointed to wake up and realize no one was making those movies. I would never get to see Jeremy Northam as an EM Forster hero or watch Tilda Swinton opposite Ciaran Hinds (which was one of the film shots in the calendar - they were on a riverbank, she was holding a letter in a scarlet, 1790s dress. What a stunning pair they would make!).

But, I shall take it as an auspicious sign that indeed, 2009 will be awesome.

  2. Can I just agree with Ann and your dream that Tilda is the best. But, with Ciaran...I can hardly keep myself together. It's just like the time I knew before everyone else that Hugh Jackman was the sexiest man alive. Shell you have to somehow patent them as a couple before Hollywood finds out how great they would be together and you see your oh-so-brilliant-idea on the top rack of a check-out-line stand scattered amongst the various terrible fruit flavored orbit gum.
