medieval garden

Here's another cool blog I love to read. It's a blog for the medieval gardens at the Cloisters in New York, where I've never been. They plant the flowers, trees, herbs, bushes, etc. represented in the artworks in their medieval collection. Naturally I'm obsessed with it. The Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries are part of their collection, and they are the sister tapestries to The Lady and the Unicorn.
The Cluny in Paris has a similar garden, but I must admit, it wasn't as well kept as I'd hoped it would be. The photo above is looking from the Cluny to the garden, and the one below is looking from the garden to the Cluny. I also didn't spend a lot of time in the garden because there was a homeless man eating out of the garbage that terrified me every time I walked by him at one end. From the pictures on the blog and what I've read about the Cloister's garden however, it seems spectacular.

  1. I saw that on a documentary about the Rockefellers. Looks fascinating.

  2. Shelley, you HAVE to go back to New York and visit the Cloisters. This website is very cool, but it just doesn't do the gardens justice. Plus, you would appreciate The Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries more than most people in the country! Maybe you and Elliott can go there together after you finish your theses, since the Merode Altarpiece is also there. It can be some type of pilgrimage-celebration.
