pregnancy update

I'm 15 weeks and 5 days, leaving 24 weeks to go. The baby is the size of an apple. Another month I'll be half there!
My belly is beginning to make itself seen. I had a doctor's appointment on Monday and everything was tip top. We heard the heartbeat again. That is such a miracle. The doctor was also thrilled because we 'heard' the baby kick three times ("Shows good neurological development, especially this early in the pregnancy."). I recorded the whole thing for Trevor, who was in class, and I still have a hard time deciphering those kicks. But I'll play it for you anytime you wanna stop by and hear it :)!
My next appointment is March 10th, and that one will be the ultrasound hopefully to determine the baby's gender. Oh my word I can't wait. I don't understand it when couples tell me they "want it to be a surprise," because isn't it a surprise when the doctor tells you at the ultrasound? Yes, it is. So it's a matter of when you want your surprise. I'll have mine ASAP, please.

Which brings me to my next update. Boy names. The list has shrunk, and we have definite favorites now. They are:
Peter; still the only name Trev and I agree on entirely
Graham; I love this name, and Trev's warming up to it rather nicely
Elias
Sawyer; only still on the list because Trevor's attached.
Henry; can't seem to get this one to the top or to the bottom, it just floats.
Hafen; ahhh, my new favorite. He would be named after John Hafen, one of the founders of the Springville Museum of Art, and one of the "Paris Art Missionaries" of the turn of the century. This would be a cool name to connect to both the babies' parents - his father is an artist and I will forever be connected to SMA. What do you think?

You see, if it's a girl, well, that name was decided months and months ago. And we both adore it. Josephine.

So everything is going well. I was up till 4 AM on Saturday night because my stomach no longer thought it needed to be part of my body and believed it would be best to leave as soon as it could just break free of its confounded riggings, which it failed to loosen, and I cursed it for its futile efforts, after hours alone with a barf bucket watching The Andy Griffith Show, which I decided was so dumb I wondered how it ever aired in the first place.

Besides that, I am having the usual unpleasantries of pregnancy (exhaustion, vomiting, weird painful pangs, achy achy back, fuzzy headiness, emotional - oh, so emotional!), but it's exciting, and I love it.

I told Trevor the other day I was starting to feel like the Venus of Willendorf. And he responded, "Yes - but she was a goddess, and she has been discussed in every single prehistoric art history lecture for the past fifty years."
Perfect answer :).

  2. I can't remember what name I voted for but out of this list, I think Peter is the cutest. It's classic, but not stuffy. I'm also quite attached to the name "Graham" myself but for rather different reasons...

  3. I love love love love love that you guys will use Josephine:) And you have one good list of boy names. I actually really like Sawyer. Like maybe we'll use it on our next boy. We really considered Peter... I dated a boy named Graham so, although it is a cool name... no. Don't like Henry. Hafen and Elias are both fabulous. The end. And sorry about prego pains!

  4. Dear Shelley's Stomach:

Please remain inside of Shelley, we all like you better there.

    Sincerely,
    Bethany

Those nights can be so LOOOONG! You're so tired and all you want to do is sleep... but it eludes you nonetheless. The term "morning sickness" is the misnomer of the century. At least you know it's for the greater good.

    When can I see you?
