I never realized how much of a bias I have towards architecture until I started teaching. All my "heavy hitters" on our slide lists and in my lectures are the buildings - the Parthenon, the Pantheon, Hagia Sophia, San Vitale, the Pyramids, Hatshepsut's Mortuary Temple. I probably spend at least 1/3 more time on the architecture than any other art form, but we'll see what happens when we get to textiles :).
Teaching half of Greek Art, all of Roman and Early Christian tonight. Yikes. We'll see how it goes!
All your talk of art history classes is really making me pine for an evening of slides and art education. Do you happen to have any spare seats that I could sit in in a few weeks...?
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a better brain for architecture but I could never seem to remember the names or terms for anything. I love looking at those old buildings though, especially the Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals. Mm.
