Summer is the best of the four seasons, and I know it. But maaaaybe not this year. Last summer felt sweltering and oppressive with the children home all day, every day, including neighbor kids. All the sunscreen, splash pad trips, sweaty walks, it was all too much too long.
For the first time ever for me, I have been exulting in the colder weather and shorter days. I love my girls in school. We all separate for a few hours, and we're all much happier to be together. Homework time is great, and getting darker earlier makes it so much easier to get the kids to bed. They were positively feral June through August. I imagine this is what it was like for the hunter-gatherers to transition to to agriculture.
